Universal HiL

Developing a general-purpose hardware-in-the-loop test environment

Hardware-in-the-Loop environments (HiL environments) are of significant importance for testing embedded systems: By using them control units can be extensively validated in an early phase before their integration into the target system. HiL tests are cost-saving and risk-free compared to tests of real systems executed in real environments. HiL systems are used in all application domains of embedded systems, e.g. automotive, avionics, rail engineering and medical technology.

The project aims at developing a general-purpose HiL environment for testing embedded systems considering the hardware and software test requirements of the various application domains.

The project is financially supported in the context of the program Zentraler Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand ZIM (www.zim-bmwi.de) by the federal ministry for economics and technology.

Project duration:
June 2009 to August 2011
