SimEx

Bi-directional conversion of MATLAB/Simulink models to XML format

SimEx converts software model data from Simulink/Stateflow into the universally used XML format, which can be used for various applications.

MDL2XML and XML2MDL conversion by one click

The core part of SimEx is the conversion module named MDL2XML which converts the model data generated in Simulink/Stateflow into the universally used XML format. In this manner, SimEx maintains the content of the model data as well as its hierarchical structure.
Moreover, a retranslation of the XML model data into the MDL format is supported by the module named XML2MDL.

Application example: Report generation

Based on the XML data a report of the Simulink model can be generated. The Report Generator, integrated in SimEx, creates such a report in either XML format or HTML format.

For conversion into the XML format there are two variants: a minimal DTD and an universal, meta-model based DTD usable for all Simulink/Stateflow models. The new GUI offers additionally a batch mode conversion.

Application example: Integrated tool environment

Many of the development tools used in the various phases of software development do not have an interface to the Simulink/Stateflow model data. Therefore, it is not possible to use the same model data in all the different phases of software development. Through the XML interface the model data can be imported into the various tools such as requirement analysis, code generation, documentation, testing and change management.

Thus, SimEx enables an integrated tool environment in the field of model-based software development. Extensions or modifications made by other tools will be displayed in Simulink/Stateflow, if they are retranslated from XML to MDL by SimEx.

Release: SimEx R1.2

The new release features:

  • Comprehensive meta model allows conversion of any model (MDL) into XML using uniform definition (DTD)
  • New GUI offers now additionally a batch mode to convert a group of models into XML
